Madaba has been inhibited for at least 4,500 years and is mentioned in Bible as the Moabite town of Medeba. From the V century onwards, Madaba had its own bishop and numerous churches were build. Madaba is most known for its mosaics. The mosaic map of the Biblical Land unearthed in 1884 and preserved in St George's Greek Orthodox Church has a very special place amongst the artists and is not to be missed during the travels of Jordan. |
